Gemmy translucent Red Spessartine Garnets & Opal Wushan Mine, Tongbei, China, 9cm CH32
A beautiful specimen of translucent cherry red Spessartine Garnets on a Microcline Smoky Quartz matrix. The garnets range in size from 1-5mm have the classic rhombic dodecahedron shape. They have striated faces and excellent luster. Scattered in the matrix are some Quartz and Smoky Quartz crystals (2mm-1cm) They have Garnets on the surface and included in them. The interesting feature of this specimen is a coating of Opal-AN, also know as Hyalite Opal. The Opal is scattered throughout the display face and coats the Garnets in places. It forms globular clear coatings. The Opal is strongly reactive to UV light both long and short wave a bright green. Very good condition, the largest Quartz crystal on the periphery has a broken tip. From the Wushan Spessartine Mine, Tongbei, Yunxiao Co., Zhangzhou, Fujian, China. Dimensions 9x4.5x1cm 69.2 grams.
