Calcite Pseudomorph After Ikaite Woody Cove Newfoundland & Labrador Canada 3cm NL02
A striking example of what is sometimes referred to as Glendonite this is more specifically a calcite pseudomorph after Ikaite. Ikaite is a hydrated calcium carbonate that forms in near-freezing, highly alkaline water. When temperatures rise above a certain level ikaite becomes unstable, dehydrates, and transforms into calcite while retaining its original Ikaite crystal form. This specimen features several pointed crystals in a flower like cluster. A unique piece from Woody Cove Codroy Valley, Newfoundland, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Dimensions 3x2.5x2.5cm 8.2 grams. Specimen video click Calcite Pseudomorph Ikaite Newfoundland & Labrador Canada 3cm #calcite #pseudomorph #rareminerals
